Saipan Finances Korean TV Series

The Saipan Tribune reports that the Northern Marianas Islands government has just invested US$500,000 to back the video production of "Tango with You" a 20 x one hour Korean produced television soap drama.

The public money was sourced under Northern Marianas Public Law 14-64.

Saipan, a tropical paradise and honeymoon destination for Koreans, hopes to reap the benefits of the soap when it is shown in prime time on the SBS6 TV network in South Korea.

Six complete episodes were shot on location in Saipan, Tinian and Rota.

The series on the love escapades of a female tour guide, will be aired beginning July 28 to Sept. 29 nationwide in South Korea on SBS.

TV dramas have a big following among many households in South Korea, which has a total population of 49 million.

Importantly for Northern Marianas tourism they hope the series will be broadcast also in Japan, Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, and other countries in Asia following the success of other Korean TV soaps which are currently in vogue with Asian viewers currently across the Far East.
