Cannes: Mobile TV takes center stage at MIPCOM exhibition and Conference for a day on October 11.
Keynote address will be given by Sanjiv Ahuja, CEO of Europe's biggest integrated operator Orange (now a French Telecom owned company). Ahuja will share his vision of the tremendous potential for mobile TV entertainment and explore the opportunities offered by mobile broadband in the always-on, anytime, any-place era.
Ahuja will also outline the most recent initiatives taken by Orange through service and network convergence to provide a pocket-sized entertainment centre.
It is worthwhile noting that other top industry professionals will give speeches: Anne Sweeney, Disney Media Networks/Disney-ABC Television Group; Harry Sloan MGM; Beth Comstock NBC Universal and George Bodenheimer ESPN/ABC Sports.
An integral part of MIPCOM 2006 focus on Mobile (DVB-H and T-DMB) are the Mobile TV Screenings & Awards. Last year 220 entries, from 110 companies came from 28 countries. For the second consecutive year the contest will recognise and reward innovation and creativity in made-for-mobile formats.
Organizer, Reed MIDEM says its commitment to Mobile TV is to help the creative industry move forward as a new medium for entertainment content. It says that awards last year had generated great business opportunities for the companies who entered the competition.
[To note how segmentised the industry is becoming, just look at the award categories: Best Original Made-for-Mobile Film or Video Content, Best Repurposed Content from existing Film or TV Property, Best Made-for-Mobile TV Channel, Best Format for Interactive Mobile TV and Best Mobile Format for User-Generated Content.]
