Asia Shines at World Promax/BDA Awards

The prestigious 2006 PROMAX & BDA World Gold Awards were held on June 23 in New York City.

Asian broadcasters and networks tend to do quite well in the pecking order.

So the usual press releases have come in by email.

These are not the exhaustive list of awards but information as supplied by the broadcasters concerned.

STAR TV

STAR says it is Asia's top broadcaster for the sixth consecutive year snatching a total of 30 awards – 10 World Gold, 18 World Silver and 2 World Bronze - more awards than any other Asian broadcaster.

What did they win? A World Gold in Daypart Packaging Promotion (STAR WORLD); Marketing Presentation Campaign - Print (STAR CHINESE MOVIES), Interstitial / Promotainment – Movies (STAR GOLD), Directing (Channel [V]India), Art Direction & Design in Public Service Announcement (Channel [V] India) and Use of Original Music Composition for a Promo (STAR GOLD).

TVNZ

Television New Zealand through its TV2 network won a total of three gold awards for ‘the Gethers’ creative output for its overall ‘Gethers’ creative package; its 60 second promo and for its on-screen graphics.

The kids program, ‘The Gethers’ was created by TVNZ and Ink Project production last year to make the TV2 channel kids slots more branded through fun and being more dynamic. The branding imagery has been integrated across all of TVNZ’s kids offerings, including on and off- air branding, programming content and in TVNZ interactive.

MediaCorp Singapore

MediaCorp bagged an impressive eight gold, fourteen silver and two bronze awards at PROMAX and BDA from across the MediaCorp TV Channels 5, 8, U and TV 12’s Kids Central.

The PROMAX and BDA World Gold Awards receives entries from around the globe vying for Gold, Silver and Bronze awards. Shortlisted entries are then judged on their overall creativity, production quality and results in achieving marketing objectives.

Sony Picture International Television - SPE Networks Asia

The SPE Networks Asia creative team bagged a total of 5 medals, including its sole gold. Perhaps a cheeky win for it was for Best Outdoor Static Display for "Lost" The "Lost" billboard was a tongue-in-cheek message telling frustrated drivers to "Get Lost" while they were stuck behind massive jams in Makati, Philippines.

The annual awards are recognized around the globe as the highest accolades for promotion and marketing professionals as well as outstanding design contributions in today’s broadcast and electronic media industries. Both the PROMAX and BDA Awards are presented to companies and individuals whose work is judged by a panel of promotion and marketing professionals.

PROMAX & BDA are worldwide non-profit associations of entertainment marketers, promoters, and designers, representing more than 500 television stations, all major broadcast and cable networks in the U. S., as well as more than 3,000 individual members in 70 countries.
