SKY PerfecTV launches HDTV World Cup Channel

In Tokyo, on May 9 Sky Perfect Communications unveiled its new HDTV channel devoted entirely to the FIFA World Cup in Germany and all 64 matches.

Giving a helping hand was Omneon Spectrum Media and its playout server system.

The new HD channel is uplinked from SKY PerfecTV to the CS 110-degree East satellite that provides a Japan-wide, digital broadcasting footprint.

Geoff Stedman, VP of marketing at Omneon said the server system offered the flexibility to get on air quickly with a hybrid SD/HD environment, enabling perfect integration with the already in place, existing automation system.

SKY PerfecTV installed a mirrored multichannel SD/HD Omneon Spectrum media server system as their first HD server installation, under the control of Harris D-Series automation. The highly scalable architecture of the Omneon server system will allow SKY PerfecTV! to expand the system affordably and incrementally as necessary to meet the group’s future HD playout requirements.

Omneon worked with systems integrator, Itochu Cable Systems for the project.

Licensed FIFA broadcaster, SKY Perfect Communications Inc, is Japan’s leading direct-to-home (DTH) provider and digital multichannel broadcast service.
