India to Open Satellite Radio?

NEW DELHI: Reports circulating in the Indian capital and confirmed by media articles, say that the Indian government is ready to regulate but also open up the satellite radio broadcasting sector.

The only satellite radio broadcaster for now is the Washington DC- based, WorldSpace which uplinks transmissions from Singapore to the AsiaStar satellite, and it is uplinked from Singapore.

The Indian government sees satellite radio as a parallel to DTH broadcasts for television.
