STAR India Splits into Two Operating Units

Hong Kong/Mumbai -– Are the powerbases of Steve Askew and Michelle Guthrie playing out in reorganisation of STAR India operations?

On his just announced added responsibilities as new President of STAR Entertainment, Steve Askew (already STAR CEO) announced reorganised Indian operations into two operating units – STAR Group and STAR Entertainment.

Peter Mukerjea is to oversee STAR Group, India in his capacity as CEO. This includes investments in Tata Sky, Hathway, Balaji and MCCS and spearhead new business opportunities. Mukerjea will continue to report to Michelle Guthrie, Chief Executive Officer of STAR.

Meanwhile, Sameer Nair has been promoted to CEO, STAR Entertainment, India, handling day-to-day operations - programming, marketing, advertising sales and distribution, AS WELL AS pursuing growth opportunities in new media eg wireless and internet. Nair Reports to Askew.

Sameer is credited with the key driving force to STAR India's turnaround in ratings in 2001 and subsequent delivery of ratings and revenues.
