March 7, TV1 To Broadcast Programmes In Malay And English Only
KUALA LUMPUR -- Program distributors/digital content vendors be alerted: Program changes are afoot at RTM1 and RTM2. Bernama news agency reported that Malaysia's Information Minister Datuk Zainuddin Maidin said on March 7 that RTM1 would only broadcast in Bahasa Malaysia and English. Tamil and Chinese language programs would move to RTM2.
The move is to strengthen RTM1, RTM's flagship channel as most of today's young people are fluent in both languages. The move would be introduced gradually.
Zainuddin said this did not mean that there would be a reduction in the number of programmes in the other languages.
