The Guangzhou-based, Southern Radio, Film and Television Media Group (SRFTMG), mainly serving Guangdong Province, used World Telecoms Day May 17 to launch the trial period of testing for Mobile TV.
A dedicated unit of SRFTMG, Guangdong Mobile Television Service has been set up and is running the project.
During the initial period, the service will be tested in four cities in Guangdong Province, namely: Guangzhou, Foshan, Zhongshan, Dongguan, and the two Special Economic Regions of Shenzhen and Zhuhai.
SRFTMG says the whole province will be served by the close of 2007.
Korea digital vendors, Samsung and LG have been mentioned in press reports from the PRC as participating in the project at the present time.
The Guangdong trials are one of a series being undertaken across the country and mainly targetting bus companies. Already in Hong Kong, Mobile TV is successfuly is being used by the bus operators there.
