AIR launches 24/7 Malayalam network

Trivandrum - At the end of May, All India Radio will launch its first 24-hour Malayalam radio network for Kerala, Pasar Bharati CEO, K.S. Sharma said on May 6. Programming would include music, drama and features alongside news and general programs.

Mr Sharma made the announcement as he was inaugurating the Trivandrum branch office of Prasar Bharti's marketing division, the eighth in the country.

The local Prasar Bharati offices were providing single window service to customers to book advertisements on AIR and Doordarshan channels from anywhere in India.

Sharma said that the new Malayalam radio channel was among eight radio and 18 television channels being launched by Prasar Bharati for the Direct-To-Home (DTH) satellite service.

[All India Radio and Doordarshan TV still dominate the terrestrial/ cable market in India in terms of broadcast distribution. Prasar Bharati as the parent of AIR and DD, through its recent aggressive policy to be more advertiser friendly has pushed private rivals, Star and Zee TV organisations behind in annual advertising revenues by earning 12.5 billion rupees, according to K S Sharma.]
